Suspension bikes are great. They're smooth, they're comfortable, and they're reasonably durable these days. The fact remains, however, that no matter what, no matter how advanced the design, no suspension bike will ever be as light, stiff, or efficient as a hardtail. Fact.

If you want to go fast, hardtails are often the way forward. They accelerate like rockets, climb like mountain goats, and handle like they're on rails. And even the lightest, fanciest carbon suspension bike will be a pound heavier than a just plain average hardtail.
